Sverre Nypan to Aston Villa transfer, agent switch, price-tag and 'crazy rumours'

Aston Villa are exploring a move which would bring talented young Norwegian Sverre Nypan to the club in the summer transfer window.
Villa are a side who have long placed importance in acting prudently in the transfer window, ensuring they remain competitive in the here and now while also identifying players with their best years in front of them.
Nypan is potentially one such player; the 18 year old is heralded as the next exciting talent to keep an eye on who is being developed in his native Norway, with Rosenborg.
Last season he scored eight goals and delivered 10 assists, while he is already off the mark in the Eliteserien this season, which kicked off at the end of March.
The eyes of some of the biggest clubs in Europe are firmly on Nypan's progress. He has previously been linked heavily with Villa's Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, but reports coming out of Norway recently suggested it was Villa who were in the box seat when it came to securing Nypan's signature ahead of the summer transfer window.
Not that the attacking midfielder is getting distracted by such speculation. Indeed his manager Alfred Johansson said of the prodigy at the back end of 2024: “He focuses on enjoying and practising football every day. That’s very impressive, and not everyone would manage it.”
Still, a future with Nypan's best interests is clearly on the agenda. In 2023, it was reported in Norway that the player had switched representatives to the agency of Rafaela Pimenta, who has a number of high profile players in her stable including Nypan's compatriot Erling Haaland, Paul Pogba, Manchester United pair Matthijs De Light and Noussair Mazraoui, and Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
"He shows what he can do and we don't want to put too many expectations on him. On the other hand, we really appreciate what he does, because it's spectacular," Pimenta told Nettavisen in 2023.
For Nypan himself, he tends to shut out the noise, what he describes as the 'crazy rumours' which he admits can drain him, as he concentrates on his day to day progress instead.
What he has previously been crystal clear on, however, is that his next move will be well thought out - and will be for the benefit of Rosenborg, too.
"There was a lot of stuff," he told Nettavisen in the winter. "The fact that United was linked to me beforehand didn't exactly help. There are so many crazy rumours in football that many people pick up on, so it can be a bit tiring, but it's something I have to learn not to care about.
"I don't bother saying anything about probability, because it's so remote. I can't put a percentage on whether I'll stay or not. If a classy offer comes that Rosenborg can't refuse, then I have no choice.
"If it's something I really want, then we might have to do something about it, but I'm a Rosenborg player now, and nothing has changed. If something comes up, it happens.
"If you go to a slightly smaller club, but which is higher ranked than Rosenborg, there is no guarantee that you will get to play or do so. Going the long way does not mean that you will succeed anyway.
"Of course, it's more difficult to break into a big team, but I don't think it's that easy no matter where you go.
"If a transfer is approaching or there is a club that seems very interesting, then we might go down and see what it is like there, and say hello to people. I'm not going to sign anywhere until I've been there and seen for myself. That goes without saying."
Nypan, who perhaps predictably in his earlier years was compared to compatriot and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, has another year left on his contract and could cost Villa, or any other club, around 150m kroner - roughly translating to north of £10m.
"We have Sverre here as long as he is here, and then we will see what happens," Mikael Dorsin, the sporting director of Rosenborg, said earlier this year. "We are happy for the time we have him here and we understand that there is a lot of interest around him, he says and continues.
"When someone comes along who wants to get involved, they get involved. We'll see when it happens. There's always a bit of a gap between interest and concrete action, but once it happens, it usually happens pretty quickly, but it's clear that there's a lot of interest. That speaks for itself."
Since then, Villa's concrete interest has been made known - now the race is on to secure the services of Nypan in the face of rival interest and potentially land a coup ahead of the summer transfer window, with an eye firmly on the long-term future of their squad.
