As a broadcaster, Jacqui Hurley's had more than a few 'pinch-me' moments throughout her career. One in particular stands out for Jacqui, though, and that's her time at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the summer of 2021. During her time in the Japanese city, the mum-of-two had the opportunity to interview a host of Irish sporting stars, but a core memory is her interview with Kellie Harrington, which will always hold a special place in her heart. Speaking to the Irish Independent, Jacqui said: 'Kellie Harrington’s gold medal in Tokyo is probably the one that stands out the most though, because her family weren’t there. 'I always felt like I was so privileged that I could be there when her mom and dad weren’t, and Mandy, her partner, wasn’t there. It’s that responsibility that you’re going to be one of the first people that she sees.' Jacqui recalled that she was really one of Kellie's only references for what was going on at home in Ireland because she had be in the zone at all times. She recalled how Kellie was in 'floods of tears' when Jacqui showed her photos from home as she had 'no idea' that thousands of people were watching the Games on Portland Row. 'Those are the moments that, when I’m long finished my career, I’ll be forever grateful that I got to do, that I got to spend that time with her and show her that,' Jacqui sweetly added. We'd imagine Kellie will also be forever grateful to have Jacqui there with her in Tokyo when she couldn't have her loved ones.
