A Long Island teacher and soccer coach has died after suffering a medical episode in front of students, according to reports. Adrian Gilmore of Albert G. Prodell Middle School in Shoreham died “suddenly” on Thursday, April 24, just two days after she collapsed on campus, News 12 Long Island and Front Row Soccer reported. Shoreham-Wading River Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole confirmed the Sixth-grade teacher's death in a letter to the community on Friday, April 25. He called the late teacher “an outstanding coach, mentor and source of inspiration to many generations of SWR colleagues, families and students," per Riverhead News Review. At around 2:55 p.m. local time on April 22, Suffolk County police and emergency services were called to Albert G. Prodwell Middle School, where Gilmore, 48, had suffered a medical episode. She was then sent to John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, per News 12 Long Island. The cause of her death has not been disclosed at this time. Gilmore “passed away unexpectedly," according to a GoFundMe page set up by her family. She is survived by her husband, Tim Gilmore, and three children. “Adrian’s life was a beautiful reflection — full of grace, strength, and a deep love for others. She poured her heart into everything she did, whether she was raising her children, nurturing her students, or guiding her athletes,” the page reads. “Adrian wasn’t just a teacher in the classroom or a coach on the field; she was a mentor, a listener, and a light in so many lives .. At home, she was the heart of her family … Her absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.” The page has raised over $132,000, surpassing its goal of $50,000. Gilmore was the head coach of several successful Shoreham-Wading River High soccer teams, having brought many of them to county and state championships. In 2019, she was honored as the Regional High School Coach of the Year for the Fall East Region. She also won multiple Coach of the Year awards, per Front Row Soccer and Riverhead News-Review.
