Tears and ice packs - Brighton hit with double injury worry before Aston Villa clash
@Source: birminghammail.co.uk
Aston Villa take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium on Wednesday evening as their Premier League campaign resumes after an international break married with their FA Cup and Champions League commitments. The Seagulls, in action on Saturday evening as they hosted Nottingham Forest in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, suffered heartache at the end of the tie; following two hours of football without a goal, the meeting was decided on penalties and Forest emerged victorious to book their place at Wembley next month. Brighton now have the Premier League to focus on, beginning with the welcoming of Villa on Wednesday, but they might've added injury to insult this weekend after losing key pair Adam Webster and Georginio Rutter over the course of the match. Centre half Webster pulled up with a thigh problem after full time in normal time, and he was later seen with an ice pack wrapped around his leg, having been replaced by captain Lewis Dunk, who himself was making his return to action after a number of weeks out. Prior to that, the potentially more serious worry occurred when Rutter, who the club signed from Leeds United last summer, appeared to jar his ankle at an awkward angle. The playmaker was visibly upset as he was helped to his feet and helped off the pitch by the club's medical staff. Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said of the concern for Rutter, who was seen getting into an ambulance outside the ground: “He might have to go to a scan, so I can't say anything now.” Hurzeler added of the need to respond to the disappointment of missing out on a day out at Wembley when Villa visit, telling the Argus: “The main thing now is to show a reaction, of course to be disappointed today, but tomorrow it's very important that we keep the head up, that we try to make a good recovery, that we focus on the next challenge. “We proved it this season so far that we are able to come back, that we can stick together as a team and we have to prove it another time now.” Everyday, the BirminghamLive football desk strive to deliver all manner of news, features and transfer-related stories as a part of our overall package of Aston Villa content.
