Cult Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso will be back for a fourth season, after two years since its last innings.
Like the former three seasons, the sports comedy-drama will continue following the story of unlikely American hired to manage fictional football team AFC Richmond, alongside the emotional moments shared by those on the team.
The show's leading man and executive producer, Hollywood star Jason Sudeikis, shared his excitement about the upcoming season: "As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to 'look before we leap,' in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it's exactly where they're meant to be."
Much like Sudeikis' very cryptic description of what to expect from season four, details on a release date are still hush-hush. In a clip speaking to American Football stars Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, however, Sudeikis said that his character would be "coaching a women's team," meaning more stars might be joining for the fresh episodes.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, suggested that they couldn't get the process going soon enough. He shared: "Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief.
"Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show." Ted Lasso was produced by Sudeikis, alongside Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt - also known for his on-screen role as Coach Beard - and its first season broke Emmy Awards history by receiving 20 nominations.
The show also boasts a star-studded cast including Hannah Waddingham, who portrays Rebecca Welton, the boss of AFC Richmond, and Brett Goldstein, who plays the team's gaffer Roy Kent. Nick Mohammed is another key player in the series, taking on the role of Nathan 'Nate' Shelley. Nate's journey sees him rise from kit man at AFC Richmond to assistant coach, before becoming an antagonist and eventually landing the top job at West Ham United - a position he later resigns from.
Ahead of the announcement for the fourth series, Mohammed hinted that "something was brewing." Chatting with Heat magazine, he revealed: "I've had texts and little phone chats.. Of course, if I was asked to be a part of it, I would obviously say yes, but I would be nervous about going over the same old ground with Nate's storyline because he went on a real journey across the three seasons."
On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans were overjoyed by the confirmation that the Ted Lasso story wasn't over yet. Even musician Flavor Flav shared a post to celebrate, using AFC Richmond's iconic "believe" mantra and referring to the news of a women's team.
"Congratulationz to all my friends at Ted Lasso,,, I think we all need something to BELIEVE in right now ,,, and if y’all need Flavor Flav to step up and sponsor your women’s soccer team,,, I gots you," he wrote alongside a GIF from the show.
