Hyderabad: In an initiative that will focus on advancing research, innovation and real world applications across quantum computing, Telangana will launch the Quantum Frontier Tech Charter (QFTC). Niti Frontier Tech Hub (FTH), an initiative of NITI Aayog dedicated to advancing India's frontier technologies through innovation, and International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad (IIIT-H) are the key partners in this initiative.Niti Aayog made this announcement on the networking platform LinkedIN. The announcement coincides with World Quantum Day, which is celebrated on April 14.The United Nations has declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum, celebrating 100 years of quantum science and technology. The World Quantum Day is celebrated on April 14, a reference to 4.14, the rounded first digits of Planck’s constant, the basis for quantum mechanics and which finds uses in lasers, LEDs, medical imaging, semiconductor technology and others. The proposed QFTC is an initiative aimed at establishing a robust quantum innovation ecosystem in Hyderabad. It will focus on research, innovation, and applications across quantum computing, communication, sensing, and security. It also focuses on skilling and promoting collaborations across sectors including cybersecurity, healthcare, finance, materials science, and logistics. The QFTC initiative will bring together stakeholders from government, industry, and academia — including IIIT-H and Quantum Ecosystems Technology Council of India (QETCI). This will be guided by an advisory board comprising national and international experts. QFTC will host industry events, including a quantum computing global summit.“This partnership is a giant leap towards making our state a centre for futuristic technologies. It reinforces our commitment to making Telangana a global innovation ecosystem by embracing frontier technologies and turning them into tools for public good,” said IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu, according to a media report shared by Niti Aayog. When contacted, IIIT-H official confirmed involvement in the proposed project but said the exact role, contours and contributions will be confirmed by later. Telangana’s IT department official too said more clarity will evolve on the project in days to come. The FTH, in partnership with the Telangana government, will provide insights, recommend use cases, and enable global collaborations. It will support the design of moonshot projects, share best practices, and contribute to its governance.“Quantum technology represents an opportunity for India. This initiative is integral to creating a scalable and globally competitive quantum ecosystem, catalysing India’s path towards technological self-reliance and sustainable development,” said Debjani Ghosh, distinguished fellow, NITI Aayog, in the post.
