Texas Children’s Houston Open results, payouts: Min Woo Lee takes home first PGA Tour title

Min Woo Lee overcame a tough weekend at The Players two weeks ago and won a PGA Tour event for the first time on Sunday. He held off a charging Scottie Scheffler and former U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland to win the Texas Children’s Houston Open by one. The Aussie was in cruise control for most of the day, holding a sizable lead throughout. He had a four-shot advantage on the back nine, and looked destined to win the first PGA Tour title of his career. But then Scheffler began to pour in a barrage of birdies, and Lee made a grave mistake on the 16th tee. On this par-5, which measured 531 yards and played as the second easiest hole on the golf course during the final round, Lee rifled his tee shot way right. It splashed into the water, forcing Lee to re-tee. He salvaged a bogey, but suddenly, his three-stroke lead evaporated into a one-shot advantage. With the best player in the world breathing down his neck, Lee had all the weight on his shoulders. He had to finish at even par or better over the final holes to hold on, or perhaps even force a playoff. Luckily for Lee, though, Scheffler could not birdie the final hole to jump up to 20-under par. Meanwhile, Lee got up and down from over the green to save his four, which included him doing a hilarious bit on his final putt that clinched the tournament. Facing an eight-inch putt for par, Lee jokingly employed AimPoint, a reference to one of the most controversial topics in the sport. He was then all smiles, knowing that he had finally won on the PGA Tour. The victory makes him the second Australian to win this season, as Karl Vilips won the Puerto Rico Open earlier this month. He also shoots up the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) to 22nd in the world, the highest of his career and the first time that he has been within the top-25. Now it’s on to The Masters, where Lee tied for 22nd a year ago. Jack Milko is a golf staff writer for SB Nation’s Playing Through. Follow him on X @jack_milko.
