Kids comedy: Children who want to learn about stand-up comedy can do so at Mic Drop Comedy this week. The venue is hosting a five-day kids’ comedy summer camp. Children ages 8 to 14 years old will learn improv techniques, comedy writing and stage performance. Students will also create and rehearse their very own five-minute stand-up set, which they will perform live at a Sunday matinee showcase. ‘The Lion King’ in Concert: Also conducted by Thiago Tiberio, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra will present Disney’s “The Lion King” and play along with the score at The Rady Shell. Summer Organ Festival: The 37th annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival, running Mondays through Sept. 1, continues with a concert Monday by American organist Ken Cowan, who will perform Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, an Elgar sonata and more. 7:30 p.m. Monday. PAWmicon: The Helen Woodward Animal Center’s annual PAWmicon is returning with a new twist. The event invites pets — and for the first time, humans — to participate in a cosplay contest and games for a chance to win prizes. There will also be photo opportunities, art vendors and activities for children. The family-friendly event is free to attend, but the public is asked to reserve tickets in advance. Pixar’s Michael Giacchino in concert: Known best for “Up,” “Ratatouille,” “The Batman,” “Lost,” and “Star Trek,” the Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino will be reimagining and performing some of his iconic scores. The day after, Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter will sit down with the composer for an in-depth conversation on their creative collaborations over the years and the process of composing. Win a T-shirt by donating blood: The 49th Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive will be located at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, right next to the San Diego Convention Center. Donors will receive a limited-edition “Marvel Fantastic 4” t-shirt and other Comic-Con goodies while supplies last. ‘‘Twas the Night Before Comic-Con’ Trivia: City Tacos’ large outdoor venue in Ocean Beach, called OB Playground, will host a Comic-Con-themed trivia night before the official festivities begin. Comic-Con: Fanatics of comics, superheroes, Japanese animation, vintage toys and cosplay will gather in the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter for the 2025 Comic-Con International. The schedule for this yearly celebration of pop culture and comics includes panel discussions, movie and television showings, outdoor activations, exhibitions, a masquerade ball and more. July 23-27. Safari Park fitness classes: The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is partnering with FIT4MOM to provide stroller fitness classes. Every other Thursday through August 21, moms and their children in strollers can navigate through the entire park to get some cardio exercise. Animated rock band debut: The fictional band known as Cold Slither from the “G.I. Joe” universe is making its first live appearance. Her Universe Fashion Show: The annual Her Universe Fashion Show is back in a newer, bigger venue in the Seaport Ballroom at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel, right next to the San Diego Convention Center. Hosted by Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe, the fashion show features designs based around featured Comic-Con fandoms. The company has hinted at a ‘Wicked’ theme this year. 6 p.m. July 24. Movie trivia: Swing Social in the Gaslamp Quarter will host a movie and music-themed trivia game night featuring a live DJ, inviting guests to bring their best costumes and test their knowledge on theme songs, soundtracks, film scores and comic culture trivia. Vintage Animation Show: EC Gallery is getting into the Comic-Con spirit and showcasing a collection of animated original cels (a transparent sheet of celluloid) as part of its Vintage Animation Show. These are never-seen-before animated cels that were used to create cartoons from Disney, Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros., according to EC Gallery. Indigo-Con at UCSD: The University of San Diego’s Park & Market facility in downtown San Diego is hosting a two-day Indigi-Con. The event highlights Indigenous voices in comics, graphic novels and visual storytelling. On Friday, creators Darcie Little Badge, Roy Boney Jr. and Theo Tso will lead a panel discussion on how comic books have influenced them. Also, artists Jackie Fawn, Weshoyot Alvitre and Xatímniim Drake will talk about how sequential art helps them tell indigenous stories. On Sunday, Alvitre comes back with Ethan Banegas to discuss the process of creating comics and the avenue comics give artist to share personal and community stories. Japanese dance company presents ‘A Woman’s Journey’: Japan’s Mademoiselle Cinema dance company will present its signature dance work inspired by the historic experiences of Japanese “picture brides,” who were women who immigrated to the U.S. in the early 20th century with only a photograph of their prospective husbands.
