The problem is generations of Republicans creating a culture of failure and apathy. The county begged for help in updating their emergency warning systems; the state (which is sitting on at least a $4 billion surplus) refused. The Biden administration made funds available in 2021 through the ARP; the county that begged for assistance refused help because it was coming from a Demonrat. And then the emergency plans were approved by the state? Yeah, that's the state that approves having an explosive fertilizer factory built next to a middle school, with deadly results. Texas gets a big purple stiffie over having a macho image. Sorry, but I'm okay with California's stereotype of being full of bleeding heart liberals who come up with "wasteful" social programs to help improve people's lives. Again, just read the nauseating, angry rejection of Biden's aid in Kerr County in 2021 by residents: https://legacy.co.kerr.tx.us/commcrt/minutes/2021/110821%28CC%29.txt (20) Funniest Again - Republicans aren't upset at all that people died. If anything, piles of dead kids seems to give most conservatives a vague sexual thrill. But conservatives absolutely cannot be wrong about anything ever. And people just won't STFU about Republicans getting a whole lot of people killed. It's not the dead people that Republicans care about - it's getting blamed for the dead people that Republicans can't stand. Especially when it really is legitimately their actions that got people killed. They knew two days before. They knew. He did not order measures to evacuate or at least move to higher ground. They literally let people die, many of whom were children. Imagine their fear. I want pain for those who ignored the science because it's 'woke'. I would pay good money to see Abbott screaming for help in his wheelchair begging to be rescued from a flood. Sorry, I can't be kind anymore. As a parent, I can't imagine the loss of kids just going to camp. They let them die. They let them. monkeyboycjc (4) Funniest 32 minutes ago What a clusterfark. MythDragon (3) Funniest 34 minutes ago State inspectors: Camp Mystic: (8) Funniest 33 minutes ago (7) Funniest 34 minutes ago Texas Republicans are stuck in a hard place with this latest disaster. It's very clearly on them. There's nobody else to blame. And it's also abundantly clear that local government dropped the ball. Which none of them will accept, because "Texas Republicans". So can't blame shift. Can't ignore the situation. Can't accept the blame. Refuse to make any changes/correct any problems also because "Republicans". Can't cover it all up. Texas conservatives have only one option - bunker down and endure the well deserved storm that's already hitting them and hope they can hold on until another disaster creates a new distraction and the focus shifts away from them. question_dj (6) Funniest 33 minutes ago My thought was, "oh there wasn't a plan and the inspection was a wink and a nod." "Five years of inspection reports released to The Associated Press do not offer any details of those plans at Mystic, raising new questions about the camp's preparedness ahead of the torrential July 4 rainfall in flood-prone Texas Hill Country. So yeah, they had no plan, the approval was corruption. hardinparamedic (11) Funniest 32 minutes ago People keep saying that and talking about things like "consequences" and "ruined careers" because of incompetence, but I then remember Uvalde and think about how nothing changed there, either. (6) Funniest 31 minutes ago A couple of things bug me about this. "One thing that likely hindered the girls' ability to escape was how dark it would have been, Lauten said. Campers don't have access to their phones while at camp, she said, adding they wouldn't have cell service anyway because of the remote location." Pretty sure I saw a video posted not long before the flood, of kids in the dining area, runnin' wild and such. Someone had a phone, and it was getting signal. "This is the middle of nowhere and they didn't have power," she said. "It would have been pitch black, like could not see 5 feet in front of you type of darkness. I've never seen stars like there because there's just no light." Can't see the stars because there's not light pollution? They used them to buy shiat for cops and build a sidewalk. So they took it and used it for things other than the intended purpose. When the local government is corrupt, laws are merely polite suggestions. This is a failure of local and state government. And Texas knows that. The Texas GOP know that. Hells even the media knows it, and they're all clueless idiots. But none of the locals are gonna clean house and get rid of the corruption. They LIKE a corrupt government. They just don't want to deal with the consequences. question_dj (2) Funniest NIXON YOU DOLT!!!!!: question_dj: My thought was, "oh there wasn't a plan and the inspection was a wink and a nod." A disaster plan would include things like, "what to do in the event of a flash flood watch." Which, the NWS seemingly issued. So the camp could have been evacuated earlier during the watch. But hey, let's just have a failure of imagination because the US is exceedingly bad at disaster planning and can't even imagine doing evacuations before things get bad. If the shoe fits... /Even funnier coming from a repeat Bush voter I was a repeat Bush voter who thought God was on the side of Republicans until Trump came along and it finally clicked in my head tin 2016 that the Republicans were a cult and that I needed to question all their beliefs the way I did my former Mormonism. My brother was a Republican as recently as two years ago, but he went back to school to become an RN after loosing a child and wanting to do his best to help people in hospitals, and after two years of seeing how conservatives screw over medical care he has abandoned his libertarian beliefs and hates RFK and Trump with the burning of a thousand suns now. People do figure it out when Trump's policies Trump over the part of the world they know about. Which is why Republicans hate education, because they want our area of knowledge to be far too limited to know when we are being trumped over StayAtHomeAstronaut (1) Funniest less than a minute ago They let people die.
