The future of golf is female: Lindsey Neidus
@Source: cleveland.com
Guest columnist Lindsey Neidus is chief marketing and development officer at StoneWater Golf Course. For decades, the game of golf has been synonymous with quiet greens, pressed polos and -- let’s face it -- mostly men. But walk onto a course today, and the story is starting to change. Slowly, steadily and stylishly, women are reshaping what golf looks like, sounds like and feels like. And the future? It’s female. Golf is more than a sport. It’s a conversation starter, a community builder, a walking meeting and a space where strategy, patience and skill collide. It’s also a unique way to connect with nature, get some movement in and reset the mind -- especially for women balancing careers, families and everything in between. Some courses are embracing this evolution, opening up new opportunities for women to step onto the tee with confidence. At StoneWater Golf Club in Northeast Ohio, my sisters Whitney, Kathryn and I are proud to be both owners and aspiring golfers. We’re deeply committed to creating a more inclusive and encouraging golf culture -- one where women at every level feel seen, supported and genuinely excited to play. And yes: It can also support your professional and community growth. More women are recognizing golf’s power as a way to network, connect, share ideas and build meaningful relationships. Insightful conversations, mentorship moments and creative breakthroughs often happen between swings. When women feel confident stepping onto the course, they’re stepping into spaces that have long been gatekept -- opening doors not just in careers, but in community and collaboration. But it’s not all about climbing ladders. Sometimes it’s about slowing down. In a world that’s constantly “on,” golf gives us permission to be off, for a few hours, at least. You’re outside, maybe hanging with your friends and family, your phone is (mostly) away. The beauty of it is that you can simply be in the moment -- no pressure, no expectations. Golf can be meditative, playful and empowering all at once. Of course, the real power lies in the people. When women come together on the course, we bring something special. We laugh, we cheer and we make space for each other to learn without judgment. We build connections in a way that feels effortless and authentic. That’s not “changing” golf -- it’s evolving it. Golf still has a long way to go in terms of female participation and representation. But the shift is happening. More women are showing up, investing in their game, taking lessons and building new pathways for others to follow. The more visible we are, the more the sport opens up -- not just for us, but for future generations. So whether you’re curious, casual or committed, the invitation stands: Pick up a club. Come for the exercise. Stay for the friendships. And let’s continue rewriting the story of this game together -- one swing at a time. Because the future of golf is already here. And she’s stepping onto the tee box. Readers are invited to submit Opinion page essays on topics of regional or general interest.
