The Last of Us season two finale gags viewers with three character deaths: ‘So much worse in the show’
@Source: thepinknews.com
The finale of The Last of Us‘s sophomore outing is as brutal as the rest of the season – with three character deaths gagging viewers.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season two finale.
After six bloody episodes, The Last of Us season two’s finale is here, having been preceded by the deaths of Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller, Tati Gabrielle’s Nora and more.
As a very quick recap, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) is on a quest for revenge after newcomer Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) dispatched our beloved Joel with the business end of a golf club in the season’s second instalment. Five episodes later, and Ellie, accompanied by girlfriend Dina (Isabela Merced) and ally Jesse (Young Mazino), have honed in on Abby’s potential location in Seattle.
Unbeknownst to them, Abby is on her own mission of morality, which means that when Ellie zeroes in on her location in the season finale, named “Convergence”, she’s not there – but fellow W.L.F. members Mel (Ariela Barer) and Owen (Spencer Lord) are.
Hellbent on finding Abby, Ellie threatens the pair, and the confrontation goes south when Owen goes to grab a gun; Ellie fires, killing him, Mel, and unbeknowst to Ellie, the pair’s unborn baby.
It’s brutal – and according to viewers, “soooo much worse than in the show” than in The Last of Us Part II; the show’s source material video game.
“Mel’s death is just sadder every time you look at it like the show version just made it worse I’m so upset she deserved so much better,” another wrote.
But that’s not the only death in The Last of Us season finale. At this point, Abby has had three of her friends dispatched by Ellie, and she wants revenge for the revenge – there’s something to be said about the cycle of violence in there somewhere!
Abby tracks Ellie back to the theatre where she, Dina, Jesse and Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) are based. Ellie and Jesse hear a scream, head through a door, and then a bullet heads through Jesse’s, well, head, fired by Abby.
“The way I gasped,” one viewer wrote.
Another added, “I knew it was coming but it was still as gutpunching as in the game.”

The scene differs from the game when Abby points her gun at Ellie and fires, with the scene cutting to black.
Fans expecting that season three will pick up where season two has just ended are in for a shake up, though; as in the source material video game, there is some timeline trickery involved, with viewers set to see the same time frame that we just saw with Ellie, but following Abby instead – as confirmed by a glimpse at ‘Seattle Day One’ from Abby’s perspective.
Creator Craig Mazin also recently confirmed that a fourth season of The Last of Us is the “most likely outcome”, citing there being “no way to complete this narrative” in just one more season.
The Last of Us airs on HBO on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET and on Mondays in the UK on Sky Atlantic and Now. It is also available to stream on Max.
