'The Legends Are Retiring': iShowSpeed Shocked After Virat Kohli’s Test Retirement

The global cricket fraternity was left shocked after Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Tests a month before the impending England tour. Kohli, who has donned the whites for India for nearly 14 years, played his last game against Australia in Sydney during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January. American YouTuber, Darren Jason Walkins Jr., aka IShowSpeed, who identifies himself as a big fan of Kohli, was saddened by his retirement decision.
Speed was informed about the heartbreaking news by some of his Indian followers in a recent streaming session. The content creator initially assumed the claims to be fake as he never expected his favourite cricketer to retire just months after winning an ICC trophy.
“Virat Kohli is gone..Chat, I don’t understand what’s happening, man. This is sad, all the legends are retiring, bro. Ain’t no way he just retired; they just won the ICC tournament. Why would he retire if they just won an ICC? He’s just 36, this gotta be fake,” Speed was heard saying in a clip going viral on social media.

Speed, known as an avid sports fan and streamer, often expresses his admiration for Kohli and Indian cricket. He even visited India in 2023 to watch the Men in Blue in action in the ODI World Cup. The YouTuber, wearing the Indian jersey, was also seen roaming across streets and interacting with local people.
Earlier on Monday, Kohli dropped a bombshell Instagram post featuring his photo in the iconic No. 18 Test jersey. The side note read, “It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life…”
“…As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for. I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way,” Kohli added.
The Indian batting icon stepped away from the shortest format after India won their second T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in Barbados last year. Kohli, however, will continue to feature in ODI cricket.
