The magical farm near Glasgow where you can feed the animals grab a go-kart or enjoy the soft play

Barnhill Farm is a place that pops up on my social media feed now and then, usually mums talking about it as a hidden gem. But I had no idea just how close it was - or that you can see if from the motorway as you pass Glasgow Airport.
Intrigued, I headed along taking the wee one to what I'd heard was a brilliant family day out, where mums get decent food and coffee, a well-stocked farm shop and kids get… well, everything else.
There are so many things the wee ones can enjoy that are all included in the price.
First up, there is a small indoor soft play and play area suitable for the littles, then there is the indoor bouncy castle, and the outdoor courtyard with cosy coupe cars and trikes to race around in, and that's before you even get to the animals.
There's a great wee trail here with pygmy goats, cows, sheep, furry Mangalitza pigs, chickens, huge Clydesdale horses and with it being spring there are lots of babies including lambs, piglets and goat kids.
For the bigger kids, you'll enjoy the zany mini golf (I swear there’s a giant grasshopper smoking on one hole), and the go karts were hugely popular.
The absolute jewel in the crown; a double decker bus converted into soft play - watch your head, adults, because this is a twisting, squeeze-through workout if you’re boarding too.
For the parents, the farmshop is a treasure trove of treats, with a butchery, giant cookies and cheesecake tubs at the bakery bit, fresh farm eggs, cheese counter and seasonal veggies - we were also given a free piece of fruit for the wee man as soon as we walked in - and all the usual posh jars.
There’s a fridge with freshly made pies and lasagnes and breakfast packs and you can stock up on farm fresh milk, dispensed into those brilliant wee glass bottles.
And don't worry if you need to refuel or even just make a pitstop from the sand pit to the go karts, the cafe offers a menu that you'd expect; brilliant looking breakfasts, burgers, soup - a very good meatball marinara sandwich - and a decent offering for kids too (we had the mac and cheese with a wee glass of milk on the side and the small man liked it).
Overall, this place is as good as it looks in all those TikTok videos, possibly even better, there is so much to see and do, that the wee ones will more than likely want to come back and for the value, you'll have no problem paying for a second trip.
