The giant Hummer EVs are so huge that people driving them can't see compact cars in the lane next to them and I'm seeing more and more cut-em-off near-collision incents on my commute every week. Mind how you go if you have to pass one in traffic.

FTA "In their place: a range of vehicles and drones that can be fielded quickly, and, in many cases, with commercial, off-the-shelf technology."
Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian military have been changing how wars are and will be fought. But I'm confident at least one American tradition will live on: Defense contractors will charge $500,000 for a $5,000 drone

Is it just me, or does this look less like a 'dune buggy' than a 'outrageously elongated golf cart'?
I'm wondering how the troops are going to feel being exposed pretty much their entire trip. In the Blackhawk going to the fight, in the Stretch Golf Cart, and then running to their objective, and having to run back because their exfil strategy is to back to an unarmored vehicle, under fire.
"We'll buy something else," is pretty much reassurance to the defense industry, that they can keep their Humvee replacements in their bid cabinets for when troops get tired of getting shot up in unarmored seats.

you're OVER exposed, to bullets, to debris, to weather, to IEDs.
A heavily armored humvee is what I would consider the base level of protection an infantryman needs. And the humvee is a piece of shiat.
How many of these things do you think a Stryker could drive over and crush before it had to maybe change a tire?

Lot of people doubting these things, but there is HUGE precedent:
Small, fast, reliable, easily repaired and easy to arm.

The original GP-1 was a smaller version of that.
The thing in TFA looks like a stripped down APC.

Also much more heavily armored than the tacti-cool golf cart in TFA. You know, what with the Hilux having doors and all.

So, how will this affect fashions here at home? Instead of tailgating regular citizens in their plush jacked-up Monster Trucks and Hummers (tricked out with obligatory LED lightbars and Punisher decals), will our domestic urban warriors have to start showing their solidarity with our Brave Boys by cruising around in stripped down junkers?

And it doesn't even have a main gun. That's kind of the point of the Helix.

Eh, lot of disliking of this truck going on in this thread. The article is light on the actual tactical use of this vehicle.
It depends on the type of conflict they're aiming for. Another conflict like Afghanistan or Iraq? This will be useless (though czech and special forces utilized vehicles like this very effectively).
This is obviously geared towards near peer conflicts and based on tactics seen in the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
It's a battle taxi, it's used for getting troops between rear echelon and where the fighting is. The heavy vehicles will still be in the front with tanks and APCs, this is just to get supporting elements to areas where they can maneuver up to those areas.
Slow and heavy vehicles moving forward make excellent targets for artillery and/or manpads.
These aren't for assaulting positions. They're for getting assault forces from point A to .9B in areas that are already secured and the risk is indirect fire, not small arms or mines.

I see Mokes tooling around Pacific Beach sometimes; they're all electric, like oversized old-timey golf carts. I looked into buying one, they turn out to be more expensive than most new cars.
