Viewers were left astonished as renowned actor Robert De Niro settled into The One Show's iconic green sofa.
On Thursday night (March 13), presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo delivered another riveting episode, featuring a roll call of high-profile guests.
The evening's line-up on the BBC programme included stars such as Debra Messing, Stephen Graham, and Owen Cooper, yet it was Robert De Niro's appearance that truly captivated the audience. Fans at home expressed disbelief at the show's ability to secure the celebrated movie star.
In astonished reaction on social media, one viewer took to X, once known as Twitter, to exclaim: "What the hell, Robert D'Niro on the one show. What is happening!!"
Another fan shared their amazement, pondering: "Wonder how much they are paying Robert Di Niro for this 10 minute appearance," reports the Mirror.
A third was struck with admiration, commenting: "What a geezer one of the greatest WOW! !".
Someone else praised the show's guest selection, posting: "Up their game tonight with Robert DeNiro and Debra Messing."
However, some fans sensed that De Niro might have felt out of place, pointing out his monotonic delivery while offering career advice to up-and-coming actor Owen Cooper.
Dispensing some guidance, Robert De Niro remarked: "Well, I think he's off to a good start, that's the main thing.
"And just to keep at it. Keep at it! Do...I mean, he's there. Now it's common sense, what to do, what not to do. Try to stay out of trouble and all that stuff, and you'll do well. You'll do well!".
Viewers tuning into the latest episode of The One Show couldn't help but notice an unusual atmosphere in the studio, taking to social media platforms to voice their perceptions.
Posting on X, previously known as Twitter, a viewer commented: "What's wrong with Robert de Niro he looks so confused #TheOneShow."
Another expressed their discomfort, tweeting: "#TheOneShow God that was awkward."
A different fan noted a lack of enthusiasm: "Bobby seems engaged...........Not!! #theoneshow." Meanwhile, a fourth individual stated their reaction bluntly: "Had to pause Robert De'Niro giving career advice so I can fast forward it, awkward as s**t."
Robert de Niro and actress Debra were on the BBC series to talk about their upcoming film The Alto Knights. This movie delves into the infamous New York mob rivalry between Frank Costello and Vito Genovese as they battle to dominate the urban underworld.
The One Show airs Mondays-Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.
