Alex Jones was left utterly gobsmacked on Monday's edition of The One Show after being treated to an unexpected and touching surprise. The episode saw Davina McCall grace the show live for the first time since her brain surgery four months prior, where she had a benign tumour, known as a colloid cyst, removed. On the Monday night broadcast, 57-year-old Davina joined The One Show, marking her first live TV appearance post-operation, as she chatted about the excitement building up to Red Nose Day. In light of the forthcoming Red Nose Day Comic Relief celebrations, Davina had a special treat in store for host Alex, aged 47. Vernon Kay, co-hosting alongside Alex, remarked: "Money raised from Comic Relief goes towards helping people in the UK and overseas. Alex you've seen first hand what the money does", reports the Mirror. Alex responded with enthusiasm: "I have! Comic Relief funds lots of projects each year here in the UK, for young children and mums in particular, one example is called Maternity Mates." She reminisced: "But ten years ago, I had a chance to go to Uganda, where they helped transform a maternity centre in desperate need of refurbishment. Gosh, I remember that like it was yesterday!" At this juncture, Vernon, 50, hinted at the surprise: "Well Davina, you've got a bit of a surprise for our Alex..." Davina then revealed: "I have because Comic Relief have been doing a little bit of filming in Uganda again... and they spoke to someone you might remember... called Angela... who was the midwife... have a look at this!". A touching video then played, featuring the midwife in question, followed by a heartwarming clip of the mother Alex assisted in childbirth. She expressed her gratitude, saying: "In 2015, Alex and Dr Angela helped me give birth. They came and took me to the hospital in Tororo and then brought me back to Iyolwa Health Centre. This is the child that I gave birth to and named him after you." The footage concluded with the woman's child, young Alex, aged nine, delivering an endearing message. Overwhelmed by the unexpected tribute, host Alex confessed: "Oh my goodness! Oh my Gosh! I can't even believe that, it seems like yesterday but I had never seen anybody giving birth before, I cut the umbilical cord with a razor because that's all there was." Visibly moved by the surprise and the heartfelt video messages, Alex remarked in astonishment: "That is amazing, gosh, that has floored me!". The One Show continues on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
