The Real Housewives of London cast on the 'sisterhood' in the series and what makes it stand out

The cast of The Real Housewives of London have opened up about the “sisterhood” in the series — and what makes it stand out. The series begins on Hayu on August 18, with one episode released weekly. There are ten episodes — plus one reunion, set to be hosted by Katherine Ryan. Juliet Angus; Amanda Cronin; Karen Loderick-Peace; Juliet Mayhew; Panthea Parker and Nessie Welschinger are six glamorous, stylish and bold women who are making their mark across the most prestigious postcodes in London. Whether they’re hosting lavish dinners or escaping to a Scottish castle for a getaway — or even rebuilding bonds over bottles of champagne — they’re all trying to balance ambition, family and fierce friendships. And, of course, living life at full volume. The series starts off in true-high society fashion, as Amanda Cronin throws a lavish International Women’s Day soirée. However, there’s old tensions simmering underneath the canapés and couture — and it isn’t long before they begin to boil over. As alliances shift and apologies are rebuffed, unity proves easier said than done. And in the lead up to the new series, the Real Housewives of London told Chic about what made them want to join the series. Nessie said, “This is the best franchise to be part of. “If you’re going to do reality TV, this is the franchise that you want to be in. “Housewives London? Best city in the world. “They’ve clearly done their homework. These are very, very talented people. It’s a Hayu original. “I’m at a point in my life where I’m like, why not? Be an inspiration for the kids, show them you can do anything — and have the best time of your life.” Juliet A told how while she’d been a part of Ladies of London in the past, she felt it was time for a new experience. She said, “I’d done reality TV and did Ladies of London, which was for Bravo. This was something new and the brand is amazing. "That was ten years ago, so it’s time for a new experience — I’m always up for a wild ride and a new adventure.” Juliet M added, “I think, you know, as a mother and a wife, you dedicated your time to invest in the two best roles I’ve ever lived. “I think this is a chance for me to do something as the children get older. “I think it’s a huge privilege to be a part of something like this — and I don’t think you take an opportunity like this lightly. “I continue to teach my children to take leaps of faith and risks “I think sometimes, as we get older, we are a little bit hesitant of doing such things. “But I wanted to teach my children, never stop taking. Risk and never stop going after your dreams.” Karen told how she reckons it is a good platform to show women that you can follow your dreams, “whatever it is, and whatever age you are”. She said, “Sometimes, you’re in your 40s or 50s and you think, ‘oh my god, I can’t achieve this anymore because I’m in my 40s’ or ‘because I’m in my 50s’.” Amanda agreed, “ I feel the same, off the back of what Karen said. I’m unstoppable. I had nothing to stop me. “I think the timing was really, really right for me — I’m representing women in midlife, who are crushing it in in midlife. It’s just a great opportunity to lean into this biggest show in the world.” Panthea said, “Definitely, it is a huge privilege to be on such a show. “And if I didn’t say yes, I would have definitely been sitting here right now, seeing these girls’ pictures on the posters, on the buses, on the taxis going, ‘I could’ve been on that, and I didn’t do it!’ "It’s a leap of faith. I’ve never worked, and I think this is to show my children, too, that, well, actually, I did go off and get a job. "They all think that I do nothing at home. At least now they’re like, ‘where’s this? Where’s that?’ “Or, you know, ‘you didn’t buy this or that! You’re not here for our rugby match!’ I’m like, ‘I’m working!’ So, at least, now they actually know what it is that I’m doing.” Panthea also opened about the dynamic amongst the group — and told how she reckons it’s “the people behind the cameras that we should all be thankful for and congratulate.” She said, “They know who to choose, who to pick, what dynamics work — and I think the good thing about this circle of girls is everybody has been on the same London social set. “Whether we knew each other or not, we have mutual friends and we’ve been in the same scene. I think we’re all very blessed to be in the 1 percent of the population that live the kind of lives we lead. “I’m not taking anything away from these wonderful women who have these wonderful careers. But at the end of the day, the real money of living the kind of expensive lives that we have hasn’t really come from that. “We have to take that into consideration. Being a Housewife is hard, but this one over here right now [Amanda] is going to go and start a billion dollar business — I told her, ‘don’t forget me!’ “So, I think it’s the dynamic of all of us. And, you know, just look at us. We’re a melting pot.” Amanda told how some of the women within the Housewives franchises have been in touch with “great messages of support” and “positive vibes”. She said, “I’m great friends with Dorinda and Meredith Marks is also one of my closest friends. Dawn Ward reached out, and some of the Cheshire girls — and from Dubai, as well. “They’ve given their tips and pieces of advice, and have given me such great messages of support. And positive vibes, as well, it’s very helpful.” Karen told how having been a part of the Housewives franchise in the past with The Real Housewives of Jersey didn’t change her approach when it came to The Real Housewives of London. She said, ”I didn’t come in with preconceived notions. I just came in being myself, and being true to myself — I didn’t plan like, ‘OK, I’m going to go in like this’ or ‘OK, I’m going to go do that’. “At the end of the day, it’s real and it’s reality. I just came into Real Housewives of London being my true, authentic self and just taking it one day at a time, really.” And with arguments and confrontation sometimes a part of The Real Housewives franchises, Juliet M opened up about navigating conflicts. She said, “I’m not fond of confrontation. I think that in life, things are thrown at you and you have to make a judgement call on how you respond. “I think, and I hope, that — I always think through, ‘what is the motive to where that’s come from?’ And the ‘why’ behind. "I have a process of the way I react. I think that sometimes, you need to take a pause. I’m far from perfect and I’ve made lots of mistakes in my life. I think that sometimes, you can’t get too emotional about the way that people see things. “You may see them differently, so you need to give that person space to give them a chance. Equally, I think friendship is about respect. We’re not always going to agree on things. "I think that’s OK. In life, that’s OK. I think you can’t hold people to the highest standards, because they’re always going to let you down. “That’s what human nature is. As long as you can bring yourself to a place where you can listen, and you can try and empathise and have compassion and understanding. "And I think that’s how you’ve got to navigate life, or you will always be disappointed.” Juliet A shared what she reckons it is about The Real Housewives of London that makes it stand out. She said, “None of us are boring, I guess. We’re all kind of firecrackers, so there’s never a dull moment. “I guarantee this season is going to be shocking, it’s going to be entertaining — maybe not for the whole family, earmuffs on some parts. “But I think we show the best of London, beautiful parties, beautiful events, lots of good fashion and glamour.” And Nessie shared what she hopes audiences take away from watching The Real Housewives of London. She said, “I think the Housewives franchise in general, but especially in London — I hope it can be aspirational, but all to see the beauty of the city and to see the dynamic of the girls. “I hope it’s a little bit of entertainment for everyone and they can have so much fun watching it and enjoy the hard work we’ve put in, and to see the fun we’ve all had making it, as well. It’s been such an enjoyable experience, so I hope that really comes across to everyone.” The cast shared some of their favourite moments and parts about working on the series — and Nessie told how Scotland was “an absolute highlight” for her. She said, “I feel like it was a really big turning point for the group, there was a great dynamic. It was beautiful — stunning! Amanda said, “I loved the fashion, and bringing in those looks — the hair and makeup and all the couture behind it. “And representing British brands, which was a big one. That was great, it was glamorous.” Panthea told how she would “definitely agree with them about Scotland, which was amazing” another one of her favourite moments was the fact that “you surprise yourself” through the journey. She said, “I think it’s nice to go into a show and misjudge some people and then get to know them — just to get to know each other and be surprised by the kind of friendships that can grow, that I would never have thought could grow organically, or I thought that me and a certain person, or me and whoever, had nothing in common. “You surprise yourself. I think sometimes in life, however much I love my old friendships and friends that I’ve had for 30, or 40, years, there is something nice about new friendships, also. They bring a different dynamic into your life. “I think for the rest of our lives, this is an experience we’re going to never forget. We are a sisterhood and that’s it. Whether we like each other one day or not, we are a team — and we have to respect that. It’s going to be an unbelievable memory.” Karen added that at its core, “it is a sisterhood”. She said, “As Panthea said before, it’s like living with five sisters. There’s different emotions at different times. Some get on more than some others. “At the end of the day, we’re from different backgrounds, different cultures — and us coming together, as six girls, to create something like this is phenomenal. “We’re just really appreciative and so blessed. And the production looking after us and being there for us, creating this — we’re forever grateful.” The Real Housewives of London begins on August 18 on Hayu.
