There's a tiny riverside town not far from Birmingham that offers gentle tranquillity and a party vibe too! Upton-upon-Severn has been named one of the best places to live in Worcestershire by the Muddy Stilettos 2025 annual guide, taking up the top spots with Bewdley, Droitwich Spa , Alvechurch and Malvern. With a population of less than 3,000, it's a 'serene' place to be but it 'bursts into life' with four festivals that attract people from all over the UK and beyond. The community has won the Gold award every single year it has entered the annual ‘RHS in Bloom’ festival. "It bursts into life with four popular festivals during the year; the folk festival (May Bank Holiday), the Jazz Festival (June), the Blues Festival (July) and a music festival (August). "It’s a pretty place to live, with a bucolic waterside setting – the River Severn runs through it – and this combined with the famous Pepperpot Church Tower make it an attractive place to put down roots. "There are lovely pub walks and it boasts its own pretty marina, should you happen to have a boat to park up (you fancy thing). "Upton has had its share of flooding, worth bearing in mind when house-hunting, but it’s a thriving, friendly small town that punches well above its weight for fun and culture." Favourite places to eat include The Boathouse for tapas next to the river, Café No 8 for 'hearty breakfasts' and a game of mini golf in the courtyard. The small town also boasts some lovely independent shops such as Ginger & Pickles for traditional toys, the quaint Pudding Shop for 'scrumptious steamed puddings' and the Map Shop which specialises in cycling and walking maps together with antiques and gift shops. Clive’s Fruit Farm offers PYO berries and has a farm shop, café, children’s play area and feed the animals zone. Properties in Upton-Upon-Severn fetch an overall average of £322,144. Most are detached homes going for £386,586, terraced £214,722 and semis up for £296,400, according to Muddy Stilettos. Nearby state schools have been rated Good by Ofsted and the Royal Grammar in Worcester and King's School are only 15 minutes away. It takes around an hour, traffic permitting, to drive from Upton-upon-Severn to Birmingham via the M5 motorway. Great Malvern and Malvern Link stations are only five miles away, and it takes approximately two and a half hours to reach London Paddington.
