There was once a war film made with a record number of actors aiming to showcase the courage of soldiers during one of Indias most historic battles. Released with high expectations the film surprisingly failed to connect with audiences despite its patriotic theme.
Which film is this?
This film was LOC Kargil released in 2003 and directed by JP Dutta who is well-known for his war-based movies. It featured 33 actors and portrayed the bravery of the Indian Army during the 1999 Kargil War. Despite its grand scale and a long runtime of 4 hours and 15 minutes the film underperformed at the box office. Made on a budget of Rs 33 crore it managed to earn only Rs 31 crore becoming the biggest flop of 2023.
Who were the actors?
The star cast included names of Sanjay Dutt Ajay Devgn Saif Ali Khan Suniel Shetty Abhishek Bachchan Nagarjuna Akshaye Khanna Manoj Bajpayee Ashutosh Rana Sudesh Berry Raj Babbar Mohnish Bahl and Avtar Gill were seen in important roles in the film. While Rani Mukerji Mahima Chaudhary Kareena Kapoor Raveena Tandon and Esha Deol were also important parts of the film. However despite this big star cast the film proved to be a disaster. The film received negative reviews after its release. The reason for the films flop was said to be the duration of the film.

After the flop of LOC Kargil the careers of actors like Puru Rajkumar Shahzad Khan Amar Upadhyay Bikram Saluja Vineet Sharma Karan Nath Armaan Kohli Deepak Jethi Priya Gill Akanksha Malhotra and Akbar Naqvi came to a halt. Some are still working. However they did not achieve success. However today when this film comes on TV the audience likes to watch it with great enthusiasm which has received a rating of 5.4 on IMDb and is currently available for free on YouTube.

The films score was crafted by Anu Malik while the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar. Released under the Saregama label the music gained significant popularity. As reported by the Indian trade site Box Office India the soundtrack album sold approximately 1.5 million units making it the eighth best-selling album of the year.
