Indian Railways isn’t just about trains and tracks—it’s a vast, dynamic network that pulses through the heart of India, covering over 68,000 kilometres and linking more than 8,000 stations across the country. Along this massive route, travellers encounter a rich tapestry of unique and fascinating railway stations, each with its own charm and history. India’s last railway station in Bihar is located in Jaynagar, Madhubani. Besides serving our country, there is also a station providing access to Nepal. Although there is a short distance between the Indian and Nepalese stations, an overbridge has been constructed to connect both. This allows visitors to explore railway stations in both nations and travel via Indian and foreign railways simultaneously. Location And Connectivity Jaynagar in Madhubani district of Bihar hosts India’s last railway station. This station belongs to the North Railway zone. In Jaynagar, trains from both countries converge. On one side, the Indian Railway allows travel to various parts of India, including Delhi and Mumbai. A large wall separates this from the Nepalese railway station on the other side. Trains from this station head towards Nepal, commonly referred to as Jaynagar Nepali Railway Station. Travel And Security Procedures To access the Nepali railway station, one must undergo a luggage check by guards. After the security check, passengers can board the train. The route is straightforward. Upon reaching Jaynagar railway station, an overbridge facilitates the choice between Indian Railways and international travel. This bridge leads directly to the gate of the Nepali station, marked by large letters spelling Jaynagar Nepali Railway Station. Infrastructure And Costs The Indian Government has financed the construction of Nepal’s railway, including the cost of trains, the station, and track laying. However, the Nepalese Government also plays a role in this project. Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, a Government of India undertaking, manages the Nepal Railway Project. On Indian territory, two trains with five carriages each travel to and from Nepal daily, including two AC coaches.
