Cristiano Ronaldo may be on the move again. After Al Nassr’s season wrapped up, the 39-year-old forward posted a cryptic message on social media: “This chapter is over.” The words suggest that his time in Saudi Arabia could be coming to an end.Since joining Al Nassr in late 2022, Ronaldo has been the face of the Saudi Pro League. He delivered goals, attention, and record-breaking performances. This season, he crossed another historic milestone, reaching 800 career club goals, the first player ever to do so.His long-time rival, Lionel Messi, who now plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, has scored 740 club goals. Though the gap has narrowed over time, Ronaldo continues to push ahead. And he’s not done yet. In a recent interview, Ronaldo expressed a bold personal goal — to score 1,000 career goals before retiring. “It will be tough, but I believe it’s possible,” he said. But while Ronaldo continues to perform, team success has been limited. Al Nassr ended the 2024–25 Saudi Pro League season without a league title. Their rivals, Al Hilal, lifted the trophy, adding pressure on Al Nassr’s management and fueling speculation about Ronaldo’s future. If he does leave, several destinations are in the mix. A romantic return to Sporting CP, where he started his career, is a fan-favorite possibility. A move to Major League Soccer could also be on the cards, possibly reigniting his rivalry with Messi on U.S. soil.Despite the speculation, retirement is not in Ronaldo’s plans. “I still enjoy the game, I still score goals, I still help my team,” he said earlier this year. For him, age is just a number. His latest post may not confirm an exit, but it does send a clear message: a transition is coming.
