This Country Has Edged Out India As The 'Home Base' Of Afghanistan Cricket Team

The Afghanistan cricket team, which has long regarded India as its ‘home’ turf, has now established a new partnership with another nation. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has entered into a five-year agreement with the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub (ADCSH). Consequently, Afghanistan will now play its home series in Abu Dhabi.
Due to the ongoing political situation in Afghanistan, the ACB is unable to host international matches within its own borders and has been compelled to conduct bilateral series in other countries.
India has previously served as Afghanistan’s home base, with home matches being played in Dehradun, Lucknow, and Greater Noida. Notably, the Test match played between Afghanistan and New Zealand in 2024 in Greater Noida was cancelled due to rain.
Cricbuzz reports that the ACB and ADCSH’s agreement designates Abu Dhabi (UAE) as Afghanistan’s new home base. This includes all training camps and matches for Afghanistan’s A and Age Category teams. Additionally, domestic bilateral matches and series will also be hosted in Abu Dhabi.
ACB Chief Executive Naseeb Khan expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, stating, “We are happy with the contract with ADCSH. It will provide us with the necessary facilities. Declaring Abu Dhabi as our second home is another turning point for Afghanistan cricket.”
ADCSH Chief Executive Matt Boucher shared similar sentiments, noting, “Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub is honoured to provide a second home for Afghanistan cricket. Our facilities have already welcomed the best players in the world. We have enjoyed hosting Afghanistan over the past few years and are pleased to declare Abu Dhabi as their second home.”
