Thomas Named Jr Pan Am Chef De Mission The Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA] announced the selection of David Thomas as Chef de Mission [CDM] for the upcoming 2025 Pan Am Junior Games, to be held in Asunción, Paraguay, from August 9 to 23. A spokesperson said, “Multi-sports games festivals require the appointment of a CDM to ensure the smooth administration and management of Bermuda’s participation in the games. “The first edition of the Games took place in Cali, Colombia, in 2021, with Bermuda fielding a team of 11 athletes across six sports. Cyclist Kaden Hopkins won a silver medal in the men’s time trial. For the 2025 Games, nine sports—Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Golf, Rugby, Sailing, Tennis, and Triathlon— are aiming for qualification and participation. The BOA is enthusiastic about the prospect of a larger Bermuda team this time, highlighting the strong efforts of National Sports Governing Bodies in developing junior athletes.” Chef de Mission David Thomas comments on his selection to this role: “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead #TeamBermuda into what promises to be an exceptional sporting festival celebrating the best that our region has to offer. “The athletes must be at the heart of all decision-making and it’s not lost on me that Peter Dunne and his stellar team at the BOA have placed their trust in my ability to help foster the most ideal competitive environment for our young athletes to succeed. “Although new to this specific role, I’m confident that between my past competitive experiences, mentors, and BOA insights, I’ll be well-equipped to give our athletes the best support to compete at their highest levels.” “We are thrilled that David is willing to take on this important role for our team that will head to Asunción this summer. He brings a calm management style, and his experience as a performance athlete gives him insight into the needs of athletes at this level. We are confident that David will do a fantastic job in looking after the interests of our team in Paraguay”, said BOA President Peter Dunne. The spokesperson said, “This week David is participating in the Chef de Mission seminar in Asunción, where he and the other CDMs will have the opportunity to visit the housing and competition sites, learn about the transportation and meal programs, and advocate for the services which Team Bermuda will require.” Category: All, Sports
