Three people have died after a plane crashed down into a river on Friday night. The non-commercial plane is reported to have smashed down into the Platte River in eastern Nebraska, US, at 8.15pm. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said police responded to the tragedy and currently remain at the scene at Luther Hormel Memorial Park, next to the river, while investigations are carried out. Sergeant Brie Frank said airboats and drones were brought in to search the water and shortly before midnight authorities confirmed the bodies of all three people onboard had been pulled from the river. Who owns the aircraft still remains a mystery, however. Multiple emergency service crews responded including the Nebraska State Patrol, the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office, the Waterloo Fire Department and the Fremont Fire Department. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, as per local reports. Sergeant Frank said crews will be on scene through the rest of the night and possibly for days. Meanwhile, the Daily Star reported on a huge fireball plane crash after a jet crashed into a popular UK holiday park . Police were called to the scene at Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park on the Isle of Wight just before 2.30pm on April 12. The light aircraft is understood to have had two people on board at the time of the crash, according to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. They both suffered minor injuries. James Lowe, a sales manager from Horsham in Sussex said he witnessed the plane come over his head and heard the engine cut out. Mr Lowe, a head coach for a local under-13s rugby club, was in the Isle of Wight accompanying a group on a rugby tour. "We were outside the restaurant at the top of the holiday park watching our kids playing archery," Mr Lowe said. "I've just passed my Private Pilot's License (PPL) so we were talking about planes and watching the planes take off also. This plane came over our heads and the engine cut out. "They then turned back to the airport but lost a lot of altitude and we could see it was going to crash into the holiday park. Myself and another Dad ran to help. Thank goodness the pilot and passenger had been pulled to safety." For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters .
