Karl Vilips and Rickie Fowler did not know they would be playing in the RBC Heritage until very recently. The Australian qualified at the last minute thanks to the amount of FedEx Cup points he earned since the previous Signature Event (Swing 5 method), while the American received a sponsor's exemption. But once in the field, their fortunes began to improve. This included the opportunity to play the first two rounds together, a dream come true for Tiger Woods' Sun Day Red brand ambassador. It happens that Fowler was one of Vilips' favorite players growing up. It was a happy start of the event for the rookie, who had yet to share a round with his idol."This was our first time playing together," Vilips revealed after his second round performance.Vilips posted a photo of himself with Fowler on his Instagram stories, which was later reposted by the PGA Tour. The Australian was 10 years old, so it was taken around 2012, when Fowler was a sensation on the tour."He was definitely one of my favorites," Vilips said. "How could you not? It was in his prime era of just the long hair, the bright outfits, the Red Bull stuff.""I think he was playing in a tournament in Queensland at Royal Pines, and I was just walking around watching. I saw him near a coffee shop and said, 'hey, Rickie', as a fan would, 'can we take a picture?' We took one, and I was probably half his height."Vilips also revealed that the photo had another meaning for him, a bit more mystical, but just as relevant."I think posting it last night on my story gave us good juju. I said we were going to go low, and we went pretty low today."And they went low indeed.Vilips went bogey-free in the second round of the RBC Heritage, carding an eagle and four birdies that skyrocketed him up 38 spots on the leaderboard and into a share of 13th place at 6-under. A day earlier, he carded four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.Fowler also moved up the leaderboard after the second round, in his case by 20 places. On Friday, Fowler carded five birdies and a bogey to bring his 36-hole score to 3-under.More Golf: PGA Tour Pro Leaves Fan Swollen with RBC Heritage Tee Shot, Makes Good
