Tiger Woods' emotional statement as he pulls out of Genesis Invitational

Tiger Woods has pulled out of the upcoming Genesis Invitational following the recent loss of his mother.
Last Tuesday, Woods shared a touching tribute on social media, announcing the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods.
"It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning," he wrote. "My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable.
"She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.
"She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you, Mom."
Despite initially confirming his return to the PGA Tour for the first time since last year's Open Championship at Royal Troon, and even scheduling to play in the Genesis Invitational where he serves as host, Woods has now decided against competing. On Monday, he explained his change of heart in a heartbreaking statement over her death.
"I planned to tee it up this week, but I'm just not ready," the 82-time PGA Tour champion wrote. "I did my best to prepare, knowing it's what my Mom would have wanted, but I'm still processing her loss.
"Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom's passing.".
The event was due to mark Woods' opening appearance in the 2025 season – a comeback after last year’s back surgery in September. There had been whispers of excitement regarding his possible participation at the Hero World Challenge in December, yet he had to withdraw due to his recuperation.
Despite this setback, Woods joined forces with his son Charlie for the PNC Championship and introduced himself in January’s TGL representing Jupiter Links. Since the turn of the year, Woods has competed twice in the simulation-based league, suffering an initial defeat to Los Angeles Golf Club before securing victory over Rory McIlroy's Boston Common team.
Woods' late mother, Kultilda, was present during Jupiter's battle with the Boston squad, just a mere week before her passing. In a touching tribute following her death last Tuesday, the TGL session that evening—featuring Boston Common against the Los Angeles franchise—solemnly commenced with a minute's silence in honor of Woods’ mom.
