Tiger Woods‘ storied career and fall from grace will be the subject of a new biopic. Amazon MGM Studios is currently developing an adaptation of Kevin Cook’s biography, The Tiger Slam.
King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green has already signed on to direct the film. Barack and Michelle Obama‘s production company, Higher Ground, are also in talks to produce the film, though a deal has not been made yet.
Cook was formerly an editor at Sports Illustrated and editor-in-chief of Golf Magazine. His book chronicled Woods’ early streak, featuring interviews with his caddie, coach, opponents, and fans. Over the course of his career, Woods has been regarded as the greatest golfer of all time, having broken and set numerous records in the sport. He was also a superstar, becoming one of the most visible athletes in the late Nineties and early aughts.
After his peak, Woods’ life went into turmoil due to sex addiction, grief over his father’s death, and chronic pain and injuries from the sport. He faced a public cheating scandal and was arrested for driving under the influence of prescription drugs. Woods’ attempts at a full-fledged comeback have been thwarted by a cycle of injuries and surgeries in recent years. Just this week, he announced he would be unable to return to the PGA Tour this year due to his Achilles rupturing.
