Tiger Woods makes Masters announcement despite missing this week's event with a torn Achilles READ MORE: Golfer Brian Harman makes heartbreaking family announcement By JAKE FENNER Published: 23:32 BST, 7 April 2025 | Updated: 23:32 BST, 7 April 2025 Tiger Woods' legacy in the city of Augusta, Georgia will expand beyond the five-green jackets he's won at The Masters. Woods' course design team has joined with the Augusta National Golf Club to help revitalize a local municipal course in the city. The Augusta Municipal Golf Course - known by locals as 'The Patch' - is currently being renovated, thanks to funds from the ANGC. Augusta National hired renowned course architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling to completely overhaul the 18-hole track on the grounds of 'The Patch'. But this week, it was revealed that Woods will help design a nine-hole Par-3 on the grounds - known as 'The Loop at the Patch'. In addition, Woods' TGR Foundation will open a TGR Learning Lab in Augusta - the fourth of its kind - which will provide access to STEM and arts education for students in Richmond County, Georgia. Funds for the construction and ongoing operations of the Learning Lab will be provided by Augusta National. Tiger Woods will be helping to design a nine-hole, Par-3 track at an Augusta municipal course Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley announced the partnership on Monday Augusta National is already renovating the 18-hole Augusta Municipal Golf Course - using architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling. Woods' course will be on the same grounds. ANGC chairman Fred Ridley revealed that Woods took interest in this while the two men played a round ahead of the 2024 Masters. 'It was clear when I shared the concept that it sort of piqued his interest, and that was sort of the beginning of a conversation, a dialogue that took place between our organizations, and after that a few meetings took place, and the idea just sort of grew from what we were doing to how Tiger and TGR could be involved,' Ridley said in a press conference on Monday. 'He then sort of moved into discussing the big idea of the TGR Learning Lab, which to me is just very exciting.' Ridley added, 'We recognize the importance of deepening Tiger's legacy in Augusta and with the Masters, and this we felt was an enduring way that we could be forever connected with Tiger and all he's done at the Masters and now all that he's going to be doing in this community.' The chairman also said, 'I know that this whole concept of a short course is something that's near and dear to Tiger's heart. 'I know he's stated that he grew up playing on short courses, so I'm sure they're going to make it really interesting for these people, for everybody.' The name 'The Loop' is an homage to the caddies at Augusta National, who have used Augusta Municipal as a gathering spot and where many of them learned to play the game. Woods will not be playing in the 2025 Masters after undergoing surgery on his left Achilles Woods released a statement of his own when the press conference took place. 'Partnering with Augusta National Golf Club to serve its surrounding community is truly special,' the statement read. 'My passion for education and golf dates back a long time, as does my relationship with Augusta National and the city of Augusta. 'This is a transformational opportunity to empower the next generation and deliver meaningful educational programming and access to fun and affordable golf. I am excited to work alongside Augusta National and see both projects become a reality.' Woods will miss his first Masters Tournament since 2021, just his fifth missed Masters in 31 possible entries. The 15-time major winner announced that he had surgery on his left Achilles tendon while preparing to play in this tournament.
