Tiger Woods' Niece 'Carries on Family Name,' Earns Hall of Fame Induction

When people think of Tiger Woods progeny on the golf course, everyone's minds immediately go to his son, Charlie. It just so happens that he is not the only member of the Woods family with a golfing prowess.Former LPGA Tour player Cheyenne Woods, niece of golf legend Tiger Woods, has been inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame. Cheyenne was a collegiate golf star at Wake Forest University, setting several records during her four years there.The one-time Ladies European Tour winner was joined at the induction ceremony by her husband, MLB star Aaron Hicks, and their two children, ages 2 and 1.During her acceptance speech, Cheyenne Woods emphasized the importance of being a player of African descent in professional golf and didn't forget to reference her illustrious uncle."To be able to be a women of color in the game of golf, to be able to now take my kids back to Wake Forest University and show my name and my picture to them," Woods said, according to Golfweek, "to have something for them to look up to really, really means a lot to me.""I come from a family with a very large name in the world of golf being Woods, and it's really nice to be able to bring my kids back and see a woman Woods, a female Woods, who has been able to accomplish something and carry on the family name."Cheyenne Woods is the daughter of Tiger Woods' brother, Earl Jr., and it was her grandfather, Earl Sr., who guided her through her first steps in golf. Earl Sr. also had a huge influence on the 15-time major champion's career.The 34-year-old former LPGA player described her relationship with her legendary uncle in 2015, saying it's a good thing to have someone like him to talk golf with."We probably speak every few months. Not too often," Cheyenne said, according to Bunkered. "He keeps up with how I'm doing and checks in every once in a while to see how I'm doing, which is pretty cool. We'll talk about golf and how each of us is getting on. It's good to have somebody like that to talk to and bounce ideas around with."Before beginning her professional career in 2012, Cheyenne had a successful stint in amateur golf, winning more than 30 tournaments. While playing for Wake Forest University, she competed in 38 tournaments and posted a low single-season score of 73.47 and a career scoring average of 74.31, which were program records at the time.Woods earned her LPGA Tour card for the 2015 season and played her final tournament on the tour in 2021. She had two top-10 finishes during her career, and her best finish was a T-6 at the 2016 Cambia Portland Classic presented by JTBC.She also played on other circuits, including the Ladies European Tour, where she earned the best result of her professional golf career by winning the 2014 Volvik RACV Ladies Masters.More Golf: LPGA Epson Tour Allows Electric Pushcart Caddies
