Tiger Woods' son and Donald Trump's granddaughter boost golf rankings after starring at Sage Valley

Despite not hitting their stride at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational last week, Charlie Woods and Kai Trump have seen a significant boost in their American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings. Woods, son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods , and Trump, granddaughter of President Donald Trump , were undoubtedly the main attractions at the Sage Valley event, drawing considerable attention to the tournament. Unfortunately, both young golfers struggled to find their top form. Woods, who has been spotted at events with his 15-time major-winning father in recent years, finished 25th out of 36 players at Sage Valley. Despite looking set for a top-20 finish in the final round, the high school star lost five shots over his last five holes in what turned out to be a challenging finish. Trump also had a tough time, finishing last out of 24 in her draw. The teenager ended the week 52-over-par with rounds of 79-89-83, leaving her 22 shots behind at the bottom of the leaderboard. However, despite their struggles at one of golf's most prestigious junior events, there was a silver lining for both Woods and Trump. Tiger's talented offspring shot up the AJGA rankings as a result of his latest performance. He made a notable leap from 838th to 603rd on the boys' half of the pecking order. The prestige of the Sage Valley Junior Invitational was evident as President Trump's granddaughter saw her ranking soar from 815th to 530th, despite finishing last. This esteemed competition has a history of launching the careers of top talents, including Joaquin Niemann and world number one Scottie Scheffler. The event may not be an official AJGA tournament, but it still awards maximum points, making it a valuable platform for rising stars. One such rising golf star is 16-year-old Miles Russell, who dominated the boys' competition, topping the AJGA leaderboard with a series of impressive rounds, including a three-under-par 69 and consistent 70s. Russell's outstanding performance caught the attention of golf legend Phil Mickelson, who took to social media to hail the teenager as a future standout in the sport. Mickelson, one of the most accomplished left-handed players of all time, was excited about Russell's prospects, saying: "It's going to be fun watching this young lefty's career!". Russell's success is no surprise, given his impressive record in 2023, which saw him win the junior PGA Championship and Junior Players Championship, earn the title of Rolex Junior Player of the Year, and add the Tournament of Champions title to his collection, among others. Despite being the son of arguably the greatest golfer of all time, Woods was unable to qualify for the US Amateur Championship last year, unlike his peer Russell. This serves as a reminder that he is still trailing behind in his class of emerging prospects.
