Australian all-rounder Tim David broke several records in his stunning unbeaten 102 against the West Indies in the third T20I at Basseterre on Saturday (July 26). He only took 37 balls to reach three figures — flicking Romario Shepherd for a fine four to conclude Australia’s chase of 215 — which is now the fastest century in a T20I chase among Test-playing nations. It broke the record of England’s Liam Livingstone’s 42-ball hundred against Pakistan in Nottingham in 2021. It was also the fastest-ever T20I century for Australia, easily surpassing teammate Josh Inglis’ 43-ball ton against Scotland in Edinburgh. David’s century also came at number five, which made him the first Australian batter to score a hundred while batting at a position lower than number four. Further, he is only the second batter to score a hundred in a successful chase while batting at number five or lower. I’ve been carrying that Dre Russ bat around for a year, and it felt like it was the best time to use it. Was just having a great time in the middle playing for Australia. It was nice to have a period at home and get my body right. I didn’t think I would get the opportunity to get a hundred for Australia, so I’m stoked,” David said in the post-match press conference.
