Tom McKibbin's DP World Tour return is good news for Jon Rahm as LIV Golf star makes his mark

Tom McKibbin may have just missed out on the Porsche Singapore Classic title, but his DP World Tour returns included plenty of positives. McKibbin was playing in his first DP World Tour event since making the move to LIV Golf earlier this year. The Northern Irishman shocked the sport, signing on the dotted line with Jon Rahm's Legion XIII team just three months after securing a card on the PGA Tour. The youngster opted to give up his card in the States and swerve the advice of Rory McIlroy to join the Saudi-backed circuit and has since made four starts on the LIV setup in Legion XIII colours. This week however his focus was back with the DP World Tour, with the Northern Irishman competing in Singapore alongside the likes of Paul Casey and Robert MacIntyre. After the event was reduced to 54 holes due to heavy rain, McKibbin came close to marking his comeback with victory. The 22-year-old eventually ended the week in a tie for third at 14-under-par two shots behind Richard Mansell, who came out on top on Sunday at Laguna National. Whilst McKibbin was unable to get over the line, it was yet another strong showing from the youngster. Since making the move to the LIV setup, the Northern Irishman has showcased why he is one of golf's hottest prospects, with two top-10 finishes and a top-15 finish across his opening four starts. His LIV captain Rahm will have been pleased to see this run continue over on the DP World Tour too, with Legion XIII currently second in the LIV team standings. Legion kicked off their campaign in style, as McKibbin came away with some silverware on his LIV debut in February, after Rahm and co clinched the team title in Riyadh. Since then Legion have recorded two runner-up finishes, in some positive early signs for Rahm's team. Having been picked up by Rahm in the offseason, McKibbin has already received the plaudits of his team captain this campaign. "Tom is a fantastic player, an incredible talent that it's not surprising that he played well," he said of McKibbin's LIV debut back in February. "But I think if you're ever going to have a debut, this could be one of the harder weeks because everything being so different. But he showed a little bit of what he's made of. He's a superstar talent, just hasn't proven it to the world yet, and really glad that we were able to steal him and get him on the team." McKibbin will return to the LIV setup in Miami on April 4.
