The newly notified Waqf Amendment Law has sparked strong resentment among minority leaders, creating unease within Bihar’s ruling JDU. Though the party supported the law in Parliament, it is now facing backlash from its minority base. In a press conference called to address the concerns, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar avoided direct answers and folded his hands when questioned, indicating political discomfort. The opposition is now using the Waqf issue to mount pressure on the ruling alliance in Bihar, especially in Muslim-majority regions.Meanwhile, on the final day of his Sri Lanka visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the sacred city of Anuradhapura along with President Ranil Wickremesinghe. They offered prayers at the Mahabodhi Temple and inaugurated two India-assisted development projects. Modi was also conferred with the “Mitra Bhooshan,” Sri Lanka’s highest civilian honour for a foreign guest. The two nations signed key agreements on energy, digital transformation, healthcare, and a vital defence deal.PM Modi also interacted with members of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup-winning cricket team in Colombo. After the visit, he headed to Tamil Nadu’s Mandapam and Rameshwaram to offer prayers and lay the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹8,300 crore. The visit coincides with BJP's 46th foundation day celebrations.
