Torpedo bats and Tariffs: Darcy cartoon
@Source: cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio --Saturday the Yankees hit nine home runs using new ‘Torpedo’ bats to beat the Brewers 20-9. Wednesday at 4:00 pm, former New Yorker turned Floridian and President, Designated Dictator Donald Trump will be swinging his ‘Torpedo’ Tariffs bat in The Rose Garden, hoping to hit imported goods and bring back home U.S. manufacturing. What he really will be hitting is the American economy and pocketbooks. The new MLB bats are being called “Torpedo” bats and ‘Bowling Pin’ bats because they have thick wood placed lower down the bat giving it the shape of a torpedo or bowling pin. These bats are legal as are Trump’s new tariffs, but his description of them is not legitimate. President Trump has declared April 2 “Liberation Day,” for April Fools who would believe that, as he apparently does. “It’s a liberation day for our country because we’re going to be getting back a lot of the wealth that we so foolishly gave up to other countries, including friend and foe,” said Trump, whose casinos were among his six bankruptcies. Should really be called “Taxed Day” or “Inflation Day” since that is exactly what any new tariffs will be for American consumers. Taxman Trump has falsely claimed the nearly world-wide retroactive tariffs he plans to impose on U.S. trade partners will be paid by the importers not us. In fact economist say such tariffs amount to a tax that are passed onto and paid by the buyers. They lead directly to across the board increased prices, inflation and a trade war. In a short phone interview with ’Meet The Press’ host Kristen Welker President Trump was asked about his tariffs driving up the price of cars, he replied: “I couldn’t care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American-made cars. We have plenty.” Of course Trump could care less. The only vehicles he ever drives are the golf carts provided by his clubs in Florida, New York, N.J., L.A., Scotland, Ireland, Indonesia and Dubai.
