Tottenham could ruin Man Utd's Bryan Mbeumo transfer plan with new move

Tottenham could scupper Manchester United's move for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford - by landing his striker partner first. Spurs are looking to bolster their squad after the arrival of manager Thomas Frank from Brentford and the Dane is said to be keen to recruit Yoane Wissa from his former club. Frank was interested in bringing Mbeumo to North London too, but the Cameroonian has his heart set on a switch to Old Trafford. However, United have been frustrated in talks with Brentford after seeing two bids rejected for the forward - the latest being around £62.5million. Spurs have since focused their attentions on Wissa, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season - one less than Brentford team-mate Mbeumo. And if they can move quickly and land a move for the dangerous striker, it could well derail United's hopes of taking Mbeumo - with the Bees loathe to lose both players at the same time. Spurs, back in the Champions League next term, will have to stump up at least £50m to recruit the 28-year-old however, according to the Evening Standard . Tottenham have already agreed a £55m fee with West Ham for Mohammed Kudus but Frank still wants more quality in his attack after watching Spurs finish 17th last season. Whether £50m for Wissa would be good value for money given that he turns 29 in September, is another question however. Daniel Levy and his hierarchy have long turned away from deals for players of that age due to a lack of resale value. Joining Spurs would appeal to Wissa offering him a taste of European football in its biggest competition. Brentford have fended off interest in him before, with Nottingham Forest already having a £22m bid rejected for him in January. United will hope Wissa stays put to ensure they stay on track to sign Mbeumo. Manager Ruben Amorim is desperate to overhaul his struggling attack and has already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a bid to aid the problem - with the £62.5m fee paid for the Brazil international increasingly being used by Brentford as a marker for the price tag they've slapped on Mbeumo's head.
