Hyderabad: It was a touching farewell to Anita Mishra, one of the most respected women’s cricket coaches, when many trainees, fellow support staff, and officials assembled to felicitate her on her superannuation after a career spanning 35 years with the Sports Authority of India, the then Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, and now the Sports Authority of Telangana.
For the record, since 1996, Anita Mishra had mentored and shaped the careers of countless cricket players. Her coaching legacy included many male cricketers who have gone on to represent their state and compete in prestigious tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, and female cricketers who have proudly represented India and various state teams.
Some of the familiar names who were trained by Anita Mishra include Deepak Hotkar, Venkat Reddy, Vijay Goud, Prem Sunder, Ashwani Singh, Rufus, Ronald, Samson Williams, Nithin Joshi, Shane Ross, and Manoj Painulu.
Among women cricketers, Daina David, Savita Nirala, Gouhar Sultana, Mamtha Kanojia, Vanitha Viola, Arathi Nalge, Revathi, and Sangeeta were groomed by her.
As a token gesture, her students across batches honoured her in recognition of her selfless contribution to cricket.
“Anita madam, you have inspired us through your discipline, mentorship, and undying love for the game,” was the common sentiment expressed by many present at the function.
