Triathletes set to take the line 13 April
@Source: nowgrenada.com
The 2nd Annual Rainbow Cup Grenada International Triathlon is fast approaching and is expected to be even more exciting than the first year. The sport of Triathlon is comprised of swimming, riding, and then running, in that order, and triathlon is usually the first event to sell out at any Olympic Games, said race director Jason Gooding, a former 9-time National Triathlon Champion and currently a Level 2 Technical Official for World Triathlon. The Rainbow Cup Grenada Triathlon will also be doubling as the National Triathlon Championships, where the fastest male and female Grenada nationals will be crowned. Gooding has been organising over 10 events per year since he migrated to Grenada in 2021. He is expecting a large turnout on Sunday, 13 April, for the second edition of this spectacular event, which showcases strength, endurance and determination in participating athletes. A new addition to the schedule of events on the day is the 1.7 km Fun Run — 1 loop around Morne Rouge. This event was included to give opportunity to anyone wanting to be a part of the event, who may not be up for the challenge of doing a triathlon just yet. The Rainbow Cup Grenada Triathlon follows in the footsteps of the Rainbow Cup Tobago Triathlon, which Gooding has been hosting for over 19 years. The Tobago event started off with 35 participants back in 2004, and it now boasts over 500 athletes who travel to the small island each year to compete for Rainbow Cup glory. “The goal is to make the Rainbow Cup Grenada the most prestigious triathlon event in the Caribbean, and I anticipate hundreds of athletes and supporters flocking to Grenada in years to come,” Gooding stated. He added that he would like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the event: Odessey Timing & Events, Pure Grenada, IMA Grenada, Cauls Food Stores, St Augustine Medical Services, Royal Grenada Police Force, Waggy-T, Fun House Mini-Golf and the Ministry of Sport. Training is currently offered on Saturday, 29 March at the Morne Rouge Playing Field from 7 am for anyone wanting to learn the fundamentals of triathlon. Interested parties would need to bring their bike, helmet, shoes and drinking water. The Rainbow Cup Grenada Triathlon and Fun Run is open to all ages and abilities.
