A SCRAPYARD boss was today described as a “gem of a boy” as cops confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with his death.
Officers swooped on the home of Jim Jarvis, 55, in Glasgow’s Possilpark after his body was found inside at 9am on Wednesday.
Jim’s two-storey semi-detached house was cordoned off along with a street around a quarter of a mile away where the black Volkswagen Golf was left.
Meanwhile, a pal paid tribute to the victim, who is believed to have lived alone.
Pat Clark, 75, told The Scottish Sun: “Jim was a gem of a boy.
“He left the scrapyard around three years ago. I heard he had been headhunted for a job at another place nearby.
“He looked so well when I last saw him 18 months ago. Jim always had a smile on his face.”
Forensics officers were seen today combing the driveway at Jim’s home on Monar Street.
A motorbike was parked near a shed at the rear of the property.
His body was found minutes from the JJ Breakers firm, which his family ran for years.
A source said: “Jimmy and his relatives worked in scrap in the north of Glasgow for decades. They were well respected in a tough area and tough business.
A neighbour added: “Jim ran the scrapyard down the road which he had taken over from his father. He also did a lot of work counselling addicts.
“Jim was a very committed and hardworking man.”
Police have asked residents to check CCTV, doorbell cams and car dashcams.
Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, claimed locals could hold they key solving the case.
“Our thoughts are with Mr Jarvis’ family at what is a very difficult time and they have asked for their privacy to be respected.
“If you have private CCTV or dash-cam footage relating to Monar Street, Auckland Street and the surrounding area, please check to see if you have captured anything that could assist with our enquiries."
DCI McCreadie added: “An online portal has also been set up where members of the public can submit information directly to detectives.”
A spokesperson for the force added: "A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of James Jarvis in Monar Street, Glasgow.
"Officers attended at the address around 9.20am on Wednesday, 5 March, and found the 55-year-old deceased.
"Enquiries are continuing."
