Trump Planning Tough New Sanctions on Russia? ‘Major Statement’ Expected Amid Ukraine Arms Push
@Source: timesnownews.com
US President Donald Trump has announced he will deliver a “major statement” on Russia this Monday, coinciding with a significant shift in his stance toward Moscow. This comes as the United States prepares to send more American weapons to Ukraine via purchases from NATO allies. "I think I'll have a major statement to make on Russia on Monday," Trump told NBC News in a telephonic interview. In recent remarks, Trump criticised Russian President Vladimir Putin’s handling of the Ukraine conflict, bluntly dismissing Putin’s statements as “bullshit” and signalling openness to new, tougher sanctions on Russia, according to Politico. He has also expressed support for the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, which proposes steep measures such as a 500% tariff on Russian oil and gas buyers - while seeking expanded presidential waiver authority. Trump’s announcement comes alongside reports that new US weapons shipments to Ukraine are being arranged through NATO allies. He reversed a Pentagon pause on air defense deliveries and authorised weapons to be drawn from US stockpiles for Kyiv, reimbursed by NATO nations. Russia 'Killing Too Many People' As War Continues: Trump President Donald Trump announced a reversal in US policy following a Pentagon-initiated suspension of arms shipments to Ukraine. The administration confirmed that 155 mm artillery shells and GMLRS precision rockets are once again en route to Ukrainian forces. This shift occurred after Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth placed a temporary pause last week, citing concerns over dwindling US stockpiles. The abrupt halt, which included Patriot missiles and Hellfire rounds, stunned not only international partners and the State Department but also the White House itself. The pause emerged while global demand for missile defence surged, following Iranian strikes on US bases in Qatar. Despite the controversy, the Pentagon defended its actions, emphasising coordination throughout the government regarding stockpile management. Trump expressed surprise at being bypassed, claiming he would have authorised any halt himself. In public comments, he said: “I would know if a decision is made…most likely I’d give the order.” He also admitted frustration with Pentagon officials for moving forward without fully briefing him.
