NEW YORK, May 4. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump does not believe that Washington will ever use military force to annex Canada to the United States.
"I think we’re not going to ever get to that point," he said, when asked by NBC News whether Canada could join the US through violence. "Something could happen with Greenland. I’ll be honest, we need that for national and international security. I don’t see it with Canada. I just don’t see it, I have to be honest with you. "
However, Trump said that if Canada became part of the US, it would become "a cherished state. When I look down at that artificial line that was drawn with a ruler many years ago — was just an artificial line, goes straight across. You don’t even realize what a beautiful country it would be. It would be great," he said, referring to a US-Canada border.
Trump has repeatedly said that many Canadians like the idea of their country becoming the 51st state of the United States. He believes that such a union will bring economic stability to Canada and protect it from external threats, which, according to Trump, come from, in particular, Russia and China. Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney has many times said that his country will never join the United States in any form.
