Two arrested and charged after 'rival traveller families' clash as three seriously injured

Two men have been arrested and charged after violent clashes between warring traveller families in Ayrshire. Police found three people seriously injured in the car park of the Morrisons supermarket in Stevenston around 2.10pm on Sunday, March 9. The discovery followed an earlier disturbance on Trelawney Terrace. Footage from the scene showed a group of around 20, some kitted-out in hi-vis, attacking rivals and smashing up vehicles. The footage shows metal poles, golf clubs, spades and road signs being used as weapons. The three casualties included a 20-year-old man and two male youths aged 17 and 15. They were taken to hospital for treatment. An 18-year-old man and a 30-year-old man have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. The men are due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court tomorrow (Thursday, March 20). A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Two men have been arrested and charged following a disturbance in Stevenston. Around 2.10pm on Sunday, 9 March, 2025, three people were found seriously injured at a premises in Kilwinning Road, Stevenston, following an earlier disturbance in Trelawney Terrace. "Emergency services attended at Kilwinning Road and a 20-year-old man and two male youths, aged 17 and 15, were taken to hospital for treatment. An 18-year-old man and a 30-year-old man have been arrested and charged in connection. "They are due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday, 20 March, 2025. Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances."
