Two people have suffered ‘serious injuries’ in a two-vehicle crash in Birmingham . The collision took place at the junction of New Town Row and New John Street West, the A4540 Birmingham ring road in Newtown, shortly before 6am on Wednesday (July 23). One car ended up on its roof, while the second, believed to be a Mercedes, suffered severe front-end damage. West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a man and a woman, believed to be the drivers of each vehicle, suffered ‘serious injuries’ and ‘potentially serious injuries’. They were treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital. A spokesman for the service said: “We were called to reports of a two-car road traffic collision near to the junction of New Town Row and New John Street at 5.43am on Wednesday (July 23). “Two ambulances and a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response Intervention Team) trauma doctor attended the scene. “On arrival, we discovered two patients, a man and a woman. “A man was treated for potentially serious injuries and a woman for serious injuries, before they were both taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further treatment.” Get the latest BirminghamLive news direct to your inbox A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We had the call at 5.40am. We sent two appliances, a fire engine from Aston and one from Ladywood. “There were two cars involved in a collision. One was on its roof and one car came to rest on its wheels. “One woman and one man were assisted from their vehicles. “We made the vehicles safe and left the scene after around an hour.” West Midlands Police has been approached for a statement.
