Two-time World Cup winner and hugely popular Leinster star extends stay in Ireland after penning fresh contract

RG SNYMAN will stay at Leinster for at least another year after signing a new contract. The two-time World Cup winner has made 14 appearances in all competitions since signing from Munster last summer. In that time, the Springbok has scored four tries and has established himself as a fan favourite, but was expected to only stay one year. However, the IRFU has given Leinster approval to give him a new one-year contract, with the union satisfied he is not curtailing grassroots Leinster starlets. The 30-year-old had spoken in the past about wanting to stay with Leo Cullen's men, saying that their style is why people play rugby. Speaking back in January, he said: "I think the emphasis is on trying to keep the ball alive and . . . just have a bit of fun. It’s the main reason why we all started playing. “I think that is when your skill set is best put on show, when you’re actually just having a bit of fun.” But there is also the defensive side of the game — and Jacques Nienaber’s blitz defence. Snyman added: “I think balance is the perfect word to sum it up. Because it can easily get loose then and you can get off target a bit. “Sometimes it’s also fun to just run into somebody! I think players differ as well. Guys enjoy the contact a little bit more and certain guys enjoy throwing the ball around. The secret is being able to do both.” It also comes off the heels of Bulls head coach Jake White expressing frustration at Snyman and other South Africa internationals playing abroad. White was speaking after his side's 21-19 victory over Leinster in the United Rugby Championship. The Bulls coach was speaking at Lotus Versfeld as his side handed Leo Cullen's team their first defeat of the season in all competitions. Bulls scored a late penalty from David Kriel to seal the win and end Leinster’s 16-match unbeaten run. And after the game, White didn’t hold back as he used Leinster ace RG Snyman, the two-time World Cup winning lock, as a prime example. He said “Now you look at me like I’m crazy but look at RG, shouldn’t he be playing for the Bulls? “Now between them, they [Leinster] have probably got more Test caps than we have URC games. White also mentioned Leinster's Rabah Slimani and Jordie Barrett as he expressed his point of view. He added: "So don’t underestimate that when you have a tight-head prop that has played for France. "You have a lock that has won two World Cups, and a centre that controls all of the attack – and he moved from 12 to 15. "They didn’t take him off because they realise how important he is to their team.”
