According to the Office for National Statistics, the average price of properties in the UK was £271,000 in the 12 months to March 2025, up 6.4 per cent from the year before. Little wonder many buyers are now looking to Europe, where you can get much more for your hard-earned money.
Bargains galore are to be had, if you dig around - with some properties on offer for around the same price as a second-hand car back home.
Since Brexit, UK residents may only be allowed to spend 90 out of each 180 days on the Continent, but that’s not putting off buyers - and there’s often also the option of renting out the property during the times you’re not there.
While Spain remains the top choice for UK leavers heading for a life in the sun, British buyers are becoming increasingly adventurous, looking to countries such as Bulgaria, Romania and Latvia.

Alcalá la Real, Jaén, Andalucia
If you’re handy with a hammer, drill, screwdriver and a whole lot more, this bargain may be for you.
