University of Louisville's Tanner Shiver Marries Katelyn Farmer 2 Days After College World Series Semifinals (Exclusive)

It has been a thrilling past few days for baseball player Tanner Shiver.
More than one ring was recently on the line for the Louisville Cardinals utility player. His team lost 3-11 to Coastal Carolina in the men's College World Series semifinals on Wednesday, June 18. Although Shiver didn't score a national championship ring, just a few days later he exchanged the ring that really mattered — his wedding band.
Before getting eliminated, Shiver told PEOPLE he was planning on advancing to finals and flying back and forth from Omaha, Nebraska, to Louisville, Kentucky. The original plan was to fly home for the day for his wedding to Katelyn Farmer on Friday, June 20, and then fly back for the first finals game on Saturday, June 21.
"Getting married on the off day makes for a unique journey and one I am excited for," he said at the time. "When we first set the date, I was planning on hanging up the cleats last year and just going to grad school, but things changed. I am not worried about flying back and forth because I know it will all work out in God’s plan."
Shiver and Farmer got married in a "classic, elegant, and timeless" wedding ceremony at St. Michael Catholic Church, followed by a reception at The Olmsted. Although the groom was still grappling from his CWS loss, he won big with extra time to spend with his bride instead of at the airport.
Approximately 250 guests attended the wedding, including: Carter Vrabel, son of New England Patriots' head coach Mike Vrabel; and Anna DeBeer, a professional volleyball player.
"I would describe our wedding as a dream come true because I am getting to marry a guy that I hoped and prayed I would find one day, and Tanner is everything and more that you could hope for in a husband," Farmer told PEOPLE before her big day.
Shiver added, "I always dreamed of marrying a woman who loved the Lord, her family, and my family. Katelyn fulfills everything and more I could have prayed for."
Farmer walked down the aisle wearing a wedding dress designed by Morilee and altered by Meghan Hicks. Her gorgeous white gown stood out against the couple's wedding party, who were all dressed in black.
"The most important part of the day are the vows that we say to each other and the oath we take under God to love each other and always put one another first for the rest of our lives," she shared.
The bride didn't have just one "something blue" item. Her reception venue was decorated in stunning shades of baby blue and gold.
The entire "amazing and fun" wedding was planned "from start to finish" by Farmer's mother, Michelle. Farmer's father, Josh, and Shiver's parents, Greg and Nicole, were also a "tremendous help throughout the planning process."
"Tanner and I are just so lucky to have parents that want to help us in every way they can," said Farmer, who recently started a new job with Baird Private Wealth Management at The Miranda Thomas Group.
To thank and honor her mother for all of her hard work, Farmer dedicated her bouquet to her.
Earlier in the night, Farmer slow danced with Shiver before they cut into a "beyond delicious" wedding cake baked by Chef Danielle "Danni" Waldridge from Divinity Fine Catering.

The couple met during the second semester of their freshman year at Tennessee Tech University, where Shiver played football and Farmer played soccer. The student athletes spent most of their free time together and quickly fell in love, making their relationship official on April 1, 2021. Shiver asked Farmer to be his girlfriend on April Fools' Day just in case she rejected him. But, of course, she said yes and the rest is history.
After asking Farmer's immediate family for permission to marry her, Shiver proposed the night before Farmer's college graduation on Dec. 7, 2023, in the middle of the crosswalk in downtown Cookeville, Tennessee, where their "entire story began."
Now, the pair are excited to go on their honeymoon, the location of which is a secret to Farmer. Afterward, they look forward to expanding their family.
"I am most excited for the life we will build, memories we will make, and the family we will create. I know that Tanner will be the most amazing father to our children in the future," Farmer said, with Shiver adding, "In the short term I am excited for life slowing down and it just being us. In the long term I look forward to building a life and family that loves God and each other above all. I think if we do that, we will have a successful life and marriage."
