Botswana's rising star Bayapo Ndori produced a big performance to defeat Letsile Tebogo in men's 400m event in South Africa.
Paris Olympics 200m champion Letsile Tebogo was stunned in his first race of the season, losing to country mate Bayapo Ndori in the men's 400m event at the ASA Grand Prix in South Africa.
Despite the duo having poor starts, they saved their best for the last 100m as they blazed past South Africa's Zakithi Nene, who settled for third in 45.42s, the same time as Tebogo in second, and Nodri getting the much needed win in a Season's Best (SB) of 44.59s.
A big performance from Ndori to launch his season and announce his readiness to challenge the big guns for the rest of the year, having played a vital role alongside Tebogo in Botswana's 4x400m silver medal-winning relay squad in Paris.
Meanwhile, Tebogo will be gunning to shake off the loss and bounce back to winning in his subsequent races, with the ultimate goal of dethroning Noah Lyles for his 200m title at the World Championships in August.
With the season still in its early stages, the talented speedsters from Botswana surely have more to give, and track fans can anticipate more record-breaking performances from the duo as the season progresses.
