It renders tonight’s U.S.-Sweden game meaningless. Sweden will tie Canada with five points if it wins in regulation, but Canada owns the tiebreaker due to its 4-3 overtime win over the Swedes last Tuesday.
Canada, which needed to win in regulation to secure its spot in the title game, led 3-0 after one period and 4-0 after two before staving off a furious third-period rally by Finland.
Sidney Crosby sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 56 seconds remaining.
Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals for Canada, while Brayden Point and Connor McDavid also scored goals and Sam Reinhart tallied three assists.
Mikael Granlund scored twice for Finland and Esa Lindell also had a goal.
The U.S. beat Canada 3-1 Saturday in Montreal. Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin scored the winning goal in the second period.
Tonight’s U.S.-Sweden game marks the first time linemates Larkin and Lucas Raymond will be playing against each other.
