US deports Pakistani diplomat from LA airport despite valid Visa; sparks drama over protocol
@Source: indiatimes.com
The United States recently denied entry to Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, K.K. Ahsan Wagan, and deported him from Los Angeles, Pakistani media outlets reported, citing diplomatic sources. According to The News, Wagan, who held a valid US visa and all necessary travel documents, was in the US for a personal visit when US immigration authorities halted him upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport. He was subsequently deported to his last port of departure due to an “immigration objection,” confirmed a senior official from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. The deportation of Wagan, a seasoned diplomat, has raised concerns regarding diplomatic protocols. Sources suggest that Wagan was flagged by US immigration authorities due to controversial visa references, although the specifics behind the issue remain unclear. His expulsion has sparked questions about the rationale behind the US authorities’ decision and the implications for future diplomatic exchanges. Wagan’s extensive diplomatic career includes serving as Pakistan’s deputy consul general in Los Angeles, ambassador to Oman, and head of mission in Niger. His experience spans multiple important assignments, such as working as second secretary at the Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu and overseeing Overseas Pakistanis, Consular Affairs, and Crisis Management at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. Given the gravity of the situation, sources suggest that Wagan may be summoned back to Islamabad for clarification. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Aamna Baloch have been briefed on the incident, according to The News. The Foreign Ministry has directed the Pakistani Consulate in Los Angeles to investigate the matter further. As of now, the Foreign Office has refrained from issuing an official statement and has advised against speculating on the reasons behind the deportation. Efforts to reach Wagan for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages. The incident continues to raise questions about the handling of diplomatic matters and the treatment of foreign officials.
