Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) chairman Ricky Vargas was elected to the executive board during Asian Boxing’s first electoral congress over the weekend in Bangkok.Vargas, formerly the ABAP president, joins Fairuz Bin Mohamed of Singapore as the only representatives from Southeast Asia in the 10-man board.Joining Vargas in the executive board are Han Bo of China, Ali Takleef of Iraq, Durdymammet Kuljayev of Turkmenistan, Muhammad Khalid Mahmood of Pakistan, May Lung-Hsien Wu of Chinese Taipei, Tatsuya Nakama of Japan, Bayanmunkh Maidar of Mongolia, Darkhan Kzaibayev of Kazakhstan.Last January, Vargas became a part of Asia Boxing’s interim executive board.Former Asian Boxing Confederation president Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand was elected as the new Asian Boxing president with Dr. Fatima Jbara Ahmed Faqeyat of Palestine and Saken Polatov of Uzbekistan elected as vice presidents.ABAP congratulated Vargas for his latest milestone.“Congratulations to chairman Ricky Vargas of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines on being elected to the Asian Boxing Executive Board as representative for Southeast Asia Saturday, 2 August, in Bangkok,” ABAP posted.Asian Boxing is under the scope of World Boxing, a new international federation that was responsible for the sport to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
