Veteran Ghanaian coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has sent a heartfelt message to Accra Hearts of Oak's new coach, Didi Dramani, urging him to stand firm and maintain his focus on the job ahead.
Sarpong believes the Hearts job demands more than just technical skill, requiring boldness, independence, and the ability to make tough decisions without interference.
According to Sarpong, a coach must possess boldness to succeed at Hearts of Oak or any other prominent Ghanaian club.
"If you are a coach and don't have the courage, you can't coach Hearts of Oak, you can't coach Kotoko, you can't coach Olympics, you can't coach Okawhu United," he emphasized. Sarpong advises Dramani to stay focused and avoid letting others dictate his decisions, particularly regarding player selection and tactics.
Sarpong cautions that while suggestions will inevitably come from various stakeholders, Dramani should be discerning in his approach.
"Suggestions will have to come left and right. Sometimes the good ones you take them, but if someone comes to you and says play this player, and you do it, then you are a bad coach." He stresses that a coach must trust their judgment and be willing to take responsibility for their decisions.
Didi Dramani was appointed as Hearts of Oak's new head coach after the 2024/25 football season, replacing Aboubakar Ouattara, who has been reassigned as an advisor to the Hearts board.
Dramani aims to bring direction, consistency, sustainability, and success to the club, and he has expressed his privilege in serving Hearts of Oak, a team recognized across Africa and beyond.
